Carol Gouthro - Ripening
May 1 - May 31, 2008
Pacini Lubel will present ceramic sculptures by Carol Gouthro in the East Gallery from May 1 - 31, 2008. Carol Gouthro, a Seattle based artist, creates seductively enthralling nature inspired sculptures that emanate from her love of gardening and the wonders of the Northwest flora. The works are not literal translations - they are fantasy inspired renderings of highly colored, multi-textured and uniquely shaped flora.
In the August/September 2007 edition of Ceramics Monthly, art critic Judy Wagonfeld writes "Gouthro seeks mutant hybrids. Borrowing from botanical forms and mundane household objects, she throws, slab builds and casts forms that merge and metamorphose into quirky sculptures." The foot high works blaze with sumptuous glazes, slips, terra sigillatas and underglazes. Gouthro's voluptuous segments, combined in vertical stacks, reflect Asian temple, intricately carved statuary and over-the-top Venetian glass.
Please join us for the opening on Thursday, May 1st from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
