"From the Earth"

Deloss Webber and Adele Sypesteyn
June 3rd through June 25th, 2010
Please join us for the opening of this exhibition on
Thursday, June 3rd from 6pm to 8pm.

Pacini Lubel Gallery will exhibit the sculpture of Northwest artist’s Deloss Webber and the paintings of Adele Sypesteyn from June 3rd through June 25th in the East Gallery.  The energy of these two artists, although utilizing very different mediums are synergistic – the reverence of our natural surroundings is central to the art of both artists.

Deloss Webber’s sculpture is influenced by eastern philosophies – wood furniture by Nakashima, the sculptural fluidity of Noguchi and the simple yet complex ceramic sculpture by Kaneko are referenced in these sculptures.  The energy is transcendent of the physical structure – stone, fiber, and wood rise above the earthly elements that comprise their visual presence.

Del’s reverence for nature takes shape as varying types of stones are wrapped in fiber – rattan, bamboo, cane or reed.  The melding of contemporary weaving techniques in concomitance with classic Japanese knotting styles gives Del’s sculpture a unique appearance.  Scale, texture, color and form develop as the process unfolds.

Adele Sypesteyn paintings integrate abstraction, landscapes and a free form approach that harnesses her conceptual, intellectual and emotional energy at the time of the paintings development.  The earthly tones integrate her connection with nature.  Adele’s paintings are clear celebrations of the diverse natural ecological systems that create that vast beauty of the Northwest.  Muted blues, greens, and tones of beige harness the beauty and diversity that surround us on a daily basis.
