David deVillier - Dilations and Dilemmas
July 2 - August 1, 2009

Pacini Lubel Gallery will present a new body of work by Northwest artist, David deVillier in the East Gallery from July 2nd through August 1st. In this solo exhibition of mixed media paintings, David explores the fertile grounds of his imagination. David states that "what I do is put up a canvas and start painting. Somewhere along the way, something emerges out of the line. I seize that and take it where I want to go. From there, I am able to make things appear, and the painting builds into a series of images. With a lot of effort, the artworks merge together into a unified piece". Combining wax, paint and his hand forged steel frames the narrative that is developed emerges. David's love of storytelling transforms from an imaginative mental concept into his characteristically highly textured, intellectually sophisticated yet naïve style of painting.

Also, merging artist, Natalie Oswald will exhibit her paintings in the West gallery. Natalie's paintings combine and contextualize both organic and inorganic elements. Nature is brought into the home - a chestnut and simple branch might be painted with a complex decorative background. A peacock might strut across the canvas as the backdrop decoration highlights the beauty and integrity of the bird. The interplay and tension between real and unreal, nature's beauty and created decoration and what we choose to surround ourselves with are all at play in Natalie's beautifully rendered paintings.

Please join us for the opening on Thursday, July 2nd from 6-8pm.
