Mike Moran
January 3- February 2, 2008
Pacini Lubel will exhibit the sculpture and paintings of local artist, Mike Moran from January 3rd through February 2nd in the East Gallery.
Mike has been creating sculpture for 25 years working in ceramic, concrete and steel. Mike states that "I like these materials because they seem earthy" and it evokes memories of growing up in Montana. Mike's sculpture, as described in Southwest Magazine "are expressionistic sculpture that seem almost archaeological at times - horses, torsos and figures combine movement with a sense of perspective" that at times seems dreamlike.
Some observers have compared his lean, sometimes elegantly created figures to those of Alberto Giacometti and Marino Marini. As described in Southwest Magazine, beyond these influences "Moran brings a timeless, historical and international flavor to his works drawing on everything from early Chinese figures to Egyptian antiquities for inspiration".
Mike has been collected by numerous public institutions and private collections including the Seattle Art Museum and the Cheney Cowles Museum.
Join us on January 3rd for the First Thursday Opening Reception from 6 to 8 PM.
