David Price
December 6- December 22, 2007

Pacini Lubel will exhibit paintings by local artist, David Price from Langley, WA in the East Gallery, December 6th - December 22nd.

David's landscape paintings incorporate encaustic as a surface material which creates a textured yet translucent finish. Encaustic is comprised of beeswax, tree resin and pigments which are melted together and applied to the surface of the painting. The technique of utilizing encaustic dates back to 350 BC - portraits discovered in Fayum, Egypt are the earliest examples of paintings utilizing this technique. David writes "that color and texture above all else inspires my artwork. I have pursued encaustics to crate pieces that speak to a place that is somehow familiar: timeless landscapes; some pieces scratched and incised, like an old piece of film, to add a sense of foreground, to create a lookout into the view. Transporting the viewer into the landscape is an inviting sense of depth, an image with a rich surface to be explored as if they had somehow been there before".
