Demi Raven and Rebecca Raven
November 1 - December 1, 2007

Pacini Lubel Gallery will present the paintings of Rebecca Raven and Demi Raven in the East Gallery from November 1st through December 1st.

Demi and Rebecca, husband and wife, both paint the human form in their search for emotional clarity. The individual elements that represent the essence of a person, at least in that moment of time are captured in these series of paintings. Demi Raven writes "over time, I have marveled at the uniqueness of presence that each person I met carries - not only in the physical appearance but also in mannerisms, gestures etc. Even more so, there is something inextricably linked to individuals that is not merely outwardly poised. Call it personality if you will, but I feel it may have an even greater spiritual depth. I find it not only in those I love, but in the great majority of people I have met over time."

Although Rebecca and Demi both seek to explore and express the inner depths of a person's quality in a hyper realistic manner, their paintings are different in composition, scale and approach. Rebecca paints compacted views of the person whereas Demi paints large. Rebecca paints a full view of the person whereas Demi often focuses on a specific component of the model. Rebecca views the model from above while Demi images the model from all angles. Irrespective of these different painting approaches, the work is united in their search and clarification of the elements that make us all individual.
